We are seeking a Public Health Medicine Trainee for the Cancer Screening Team of the National Screening Unit in the Health and Disability National Services Directorate.

The Health and Disability National Services Directorate is responsible for planning, funding and providing services not currently funded by District Health Boards (DHBs).  These include:

·         disability support services

·         public health services

·         personal health services not currently managed by DHBs (eg, Plunket).

·         National Screening Unit

The National Screening Unit (NSU) is part of the Health and Disability National Services Directorate and is responsible for carrying out all the required national functions of the two national cancer-screening programmes – the National Cervical Screening Programme (NCSP) and BreastScreen Aotearoa (BSA), the Newborn Metabolic Screening Programme and the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Programme.  It is also responsible for the national coordination of antenatal HIV screening and the proposed quality improvement measures for antenatal Down syndrome screening.

The NSU also has a wider role with respect to other screening (strategic screening), including the provision of strategy and policy advice, and establishment of new programmes where appropriate.

 As a Public Health Medicine Trainee with the National Screening Unit you will contribute to the development of operational policy in the New Zealand National Cervical Screening Programme (NCSP).  Specifically, to assist with the development and implementation of a human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence study as part of an ongoing Ministry of Health work programme.  Other options may also be discussed with the NCSP Clinical Leader, Dr Hazel Lewis. 

This is a full time fixed term position for 12 months based in Wellington.

You will need to be a Trainee on the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine Training Programme.
